My laptops screen broke and I NEED to transfer or get files off.
I've gotten a new computor, but I've left my old broken one sitting for a long time now, so I'm not even sure if it still works. I really need music, documents, and pictures off or transferred onto my new one. Anything I should try? Or places to take it and get them transferred professionally?

Most laptops have a external place for a monitor. You might check that first so you can hook it to a monitor and then transfer the files you need.

I agree with Califdadof3. A lot of laptops have VGA ports that will allow you to hook it up to another monitor, TV, projector etc...

Assuming your laptop still works it will project the image onto whatever device you hook it up too ie: monitor, tc etc..

When you hook a laptop up to an external device you will need to hit a hot key to transfer the video from your laptop screen to the external device. This key will look different depending on the brand of laptop.

Calidadof3: That is very true. The options to hooking a laptop to an external display of some sort are numerous. VGA, HDMI, S-Video, etc...

I guess it all depends on your laptop and the device you're hooking it to.

Good idea adding the note about HDMI.

I would try the above first. If your PC doesn't turn on you could take the cover off, exposing the hard drive. Put your ear to the drive, if you hear it spinning, you may want to hook your drive up to your new PC. I use a USB2.0 cable to Serial ATA adapter, this adapter will turn your drive into a external hard drive you can access the same as you would a jump drive. Below is a link of just one of hundreds.
