    Guardianship question
I live in California and have guardianship of my 15 year old granddaughter. My husband and I have had her for most of her life. A family that we were very close to moved to Colorado. Our granddaughter has visited them several times and there daughter has come to visit here. I recently found out that the mother has been talking with our granddaughter about moving to live with them in Colorado. She has told our granddaughter that she can make that decision when she is 16 years old. I thought that she would have to be eighteen to make those kinds of decisions. I am very upset about this and need to know if indeed she has a legal right to move to another state against our wishes. I have not spoken to the mother as I wanted to know legally what I can do.

California would have to grant permission for that to happen, a court hearing would have to happen.

I have dealt with California on guardianship with my granddaugthers, they are very tough. They don't like to change the guardianship

I would double check with CA as to the age limit on this, but I would doubt if it would be 16. Even if it was, it would require a court order to transfer guardianship or allow her to emancipate herself.

What piques my curiousity is what's in it for the other family. Why would someone just take on the responsibility for care of another child like that. Does she just want a companion for her daughter? Or does your grand daughter have some trust fund? What about college? Will they pay for that? Did you plan on contributing towards it?
