Seems like I can't get past my wachine machine woes. I live in a condo buidling and replaced the old stacked washer/dryer with a newer one. One of the first problems I encountered was the pump being too strong, therefore when the water would get drained out of the washer, the water would overflow and come out of the drain pipe. To fix this I had a plumber come in and snake the drain pipe (there was a blockage). I also extended the length of the drain hose so that it could go further down the stand pipe. Lastly, I added a compression fitting to the drain hose/stand pipe connection and completely sealed it up with water-proof tape (aluminum looking tape as receommended by the staff at Home Depot).

So everything is finally working fine, up until a few days ago when I found quite a bit of water in the washing machine after a cycle. Seems that the water is not draining properly. After a net search some suggest that I cannot fully block the hose/stand pipe connection as it needs air to properly drain the water from the washer. Should I simply remove the tape or maybe cut a hole in it to allow air circulation?

Over two years ago I purchased a new Kenmore washer with a drain overflow problem. The old washer (only 5 years old) drained fine. Our drain pipe was 2 inches. We thought it was a clogged drain, but it wasn't. We had to temporarily have the gray water exit through the window. Yesterday it dawned on me that the old washer drain hose had a hard plastic "U" where it went into the wall drain pipe; the new hose did not. I went to the store and purchased a new hose with a "U" in the end. Evidently, besides helping the hose stay in the drain pipe, the "U" slows down the waterflow. PROBLEM SOLVED!
