How do baby's bones fracture with no bruising?
Is it (possible) probable for a baby (11 months old), who's bones are still very supple & flexible, to suffer a fractured clavical (collarbone) with no sign of external force that might have caused the injury?: no bruising around fracture area nor on arms or shoulders. How much force would be required to cause such fractures? CPS ordered hospital to do brain scan to check for evidence of shaking - NO SHAKING _ NO SPIRAL FRACTURES The right collarbone was fractured, then the left, & later, the right one again! He also (at a different time) suffered a very slight "buckle" fracture in right lower leg which also had no bruising or other visible signs of injury, yet CPS has charged the mother with neglect. Upon examination, an O.I. expert did not see enough evidence to say," yes, this child has O.I."

Do the stories of how the bones were fractured add up? Sometimes red flags are raised when the explanation is not plausible... especially with such a recurrence. Anytime there is such an injury, CPS is notified and it is investigated.

For some children it doesn't take much to result in a fracture and there doesn't necessarily have to be any bruising evident.

I would inquire about having a second opinion as to why the child's bones appear to be so weak. There are other possible causes for "brittle bones" besides O.I. There could be another medical condition to look into, could be the child is just at that clumsy stage (when did all of the fractures occur? Was the child at a crusing/walking stage?), could be a real concern regarding inappropriate actions by an adult.
