My 95 Honda civic that I bought yesterday wouldn't run this morning. It worked perfectly when I was inspecting it before I bought it. Started fine. Ran great, no noises. This morning it wouldn't run. It would crank but not stay running, only sputtering as if it wanted to.
If I turned the ignition on, let the Check Eng Light go out, turned it off, then repeated 2-3 more times, it would run for a short time, the die. I would die even more quick if I pressed the gas pedal. I could repeat this and get the same results.
I can hear the fuel pump prime for the 2 secs while the Check Eng Light is on then it goes off with the light. Works normal. I went to the auto store later in the day for a maintenance book so I could do some troubleshooting. And when I got back, I decided to try one more time. It ran fine. No problems. Like the day I bought it.
I don't want to be stranded because it might do this again. The only thing that was different between the morning try and the afternoon try is the temp and humidity. It was cold and damp this morning and now its warmer and a little drier.

Sounds like a main relay or igniter problem. I recommend replacing the main relay, igniter, and coil. This should provide the reliability and performance you are looking for.

Just to let you know, I found the problem. Before I tell you, I want to tell you what led me there. When I bought the car a day before the problems arose, I took it from the carlot to the gas station to fill up because the gauge was on Empty. The car only took 1/4 gallon before the nozzle shut off. I squeezed the nozzle a few more times with the same result. It would not take on any fuel. I thought "Great, the gas gauge is broke." I looked at the trip odometer, and it read 0001. I owned a truck with a broken gauge and used the trip odometer for a gas gauge. So, logically I thought the same thing. Well after checking the WHOLE ignition system and the ECM, and all that checking good (I did you K-Test, and it passed) I headed for the fuel system. I pulled the pump because little to no fuel was flowing with a line loose at the fuel rail. It was late and dark when I pulled the pump and the next day, after buying a pump, I decided to check the sending unit for the fuel gauge before installing the new pump. I stuck a long screwdriver in the tank and lifted the float arm. The needle on the gauge started to move. I then smacked myself in the forehead and blamed the gas station pump nozzle for sending me down this path. Needless to say, it was OUT OF GAS! And because gas loses volume when could, in the morning it had no gas to be picked up by the pump, and in the afternoon, it expanded enough to reach the pump, further sending me on the wrong path. Well, thanks to all of this, I now have a thorough working knowledge of a 95 Civic's ignition and fuel system. Or pretty good one at least. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for the tips
