Washing machine pipe overflow - second opinion
Hi! The pipe that drains our our washing machine sprays out water every time it drains. The plumber said that it's because the house is old (1950's) and the washer is new. Thus, the washer is built for homes that have a higher draining capacity, which my house does not have. He recommended installing a utility sink to drain the washer into.

It makes sense, but after reading similar posts and answers to questions on this site, I'm not sure if his assessment is correct. Does this assessment sound right to you?

    Thank you!

    Hi Jenn,

That's one solution. Washer pumps are more powerful now days and the older 1 1/2" systems just can't handle the volume. Another would be to increase the capacity of the drainage system and a third would be to install a compression fitting on the stand pipe and make it a closed system.
    Your choice! Good luck, Tom
