    Garbage Disposal Installation Location
Garbage disposer was installed by plumber in construction of a new home.

Going from left to right, this is the kitchen layout:

To the left of dishwasher, on wall, is switch for garbage disposer
    Then dishwasher
    Then leftmost sink basin
Then rightmost sink basin (into which disposer is installed)
    Counter
    Stove

Switch to disposer is located a good distance from switch. (Not a good location for actually using it.)

Disposer is not connected to dishwasher. (Plumber says they no longer connect them to the dishwasher. If this is the current correct method than how do food scraps in the dishwasher get ground before entering the drain and possibly clogging it?)

Disposer is not in basin closest to dishwasher, so can not easily rinse dishes and place in dishwasher.

Location does not work for hand washing dishes either. If wash in right basin, rinse in left and stack to dry on left counter, disposer is not available for use. If wash in left basin, rinse in right and stack on right counter (disposer is available), but counter space for food prep is used to stack dishes to dry.

Plumber that installed it says it is installed correctly. Is functionality not taken into consideration when installing a garbage disposer?

    Please advice.

In my area we install out fixtures this way.
Disposal in the left hand tub,(separate traps for each tub) Switch on same side.
    Then the right hand tub.
The dishwasher installed on the right hand side and the discharge hose connected to the inlet port on the disposal.

"how do food scraps in the dishwasher get ground before entering the drain and possibly clogging it?)"

When the dishwasher pump discharges the disposal doesn' grind it up. It goes direct into the disposals trap.

"Disposer is not in basin closest to dishwasher, so can not easily rinse dishes and place in dishwasher."

The dishes are scraped and rinsed in the left hand tub, they then go into the dishwasher to be washed and can be off loaded into the right hand tub for drying.
This is how we install all of our kitchens. Regards, Tom

I had a garbage disposal installed in my kitchen by a plumber. Sometime when we put garbage in and turn it on it shoots out the other drain and comes up into the other sink basin. My guess is that too much garbage is being put inthere at one time and shoots it across. Also, the instructions say to...
