    I have been stupid for the first time in 57 years and committed fraud - will I go toI
    I have stupidly fraudently used cheques and have admitted to this but am making myself sick with worry that I might go to prison ! I have never ever in 57 years done anything wrong - I have offered to pay this money back - please help with advice if you can !

    Hello l:

    STOP admitting it, and HIRE a lawyer. If you can't afford a lawyer, and you obviously can't, STOP admitting it anyway. They'll give you a lawyer for FREE.

    Depending on where you are you could still be charged with the crime even if you pay the money back. Get a good attorney to help you out of this mess.

    Also, if this is not a large amount of money you shouldn't be seeing any jail time. If it is a large amount then possibly. Most likely you'll get probation but in the meantime you'll be put through a lot of grief just to get the probation. See an attorney now.

    Fraudulently using checks? Theft may not be the only criminal charge.

    Need more info.

    My guess is some sort of embezzlement from a company. Also if the OP did MANY checks then she'll not be tap dancing out of this in a big hurry with just probation either.
