Oil painting signature is illegible-can you identify it?
I have acquired an oil painting (may be of German origin) size 11 1/2" X 24" unframed. The scene is a country landscape with sunlit barns or outbuilding in dark tones. The signature in the bottom left corner is illegible--looks like P. or D. xxxxxx Marked on the reverse in black oil crayon or paint with 2-3" high letters/numbers is: SZ (or S2) 541 027. Not being knowledge looks like tonalism and impressionism. Paint was put down heavily with palette knife on barn, tree and grasses. Any help identifying this painting's artist or history is appreciated.
