Should I have reported sexual to Missouri instead of sending the child back to Il?
He reported to me on one visit that his mother burned him on his back with a lighter. This was confirmed by the state. He is now afraid to say anything. His mother was evicted from her house the first of this year. She had not had trash service in months and was putting the trash in the basement. When she moved the landlord showed the father pictures of dead rats in the kitchen cabinets and stated it took an entire dump truck to haul away the trash. The child had begged family services to let him live with his father. The last time he told a member of family services about his living situation the worker stated to him that he would say anything to get to live with his father. I am the child's aunt. He and his parents lived with the first three years of his life until I moved back to Missouri. My nephew and myself were his caregivers during that time. I had hoped the mother would take care of him when I left but she doesn't. About a week ago she was again evicted. My nephew has not been ordered child support yet but buys most of his food every week. His grandmother and myself have bought him his clothes and made sure he has medical care since he was born.. The school called my nephew's girlfriend as the child told his teacher his mother was moving and he had no where to go. She was afraid to put him on the bus and stated he had been upset for days. When my nephew took him home he had to be physically removed from the car as he was crying and begging to go with his father. This is a frequent situation. My nephew is far from perfect. He assaulted a person in front of the boy two years ago. He has since gone to anger management, parenting and substance abuse classes. The child's mother tested positive twice during the time DCFS was involved but never required to attend classes of any type. She moved in with the caseworker's nephew recently. In Missouri that would be a conflict of interest. I was a therapist contracted with the state of Missouri to work with behavior disordered children and the families before I retired. When he told me about the anal massage, I knew better than to coax him into saying more or reacting negatively. I told him I thought that was not healthy because of the germs and dropped the subject until I could contact the authorities. I've had to do the interviews and know better than to prepare him or try to tell him what to say.
