    Identifier/continuity tester
Is there any such product made by Fluke, Gardner, Kline, etc. that would allow me to test for continuity on a AC wire from the panel to say up to 100 feet away with THHN wire in EMT. I have posted on something similar to this previously but I have shared neutrals and I need a way to separate a few of them. I really only have about five to separate so it isn't a lot but if I need to pay the money to do so, I am willing. Most of the runs i.e. 3/4" EMT runs have three hot wires and two neutrals, so I need to know what's what. Lastly, if I could pick something like this up from a big box store or national chain that would be spectacular! Thank you in advance for you time and assistance.

You say continuity. Are some wires broken? Are you wishing to find a break in the conduit? I'm a bit confused as what exactly you want to accomplish. If you disconnect the wires from the power source you could use a wire tracer. Is that what you want to do, just wring out the wiring or is there a fault you are trying to find?

There's no fault but I need to separate the neutrals out in the conduit that I have so I can install arc fault breakers. So I figured some type of wireless device that was on one end at the panel and it's matching wireless device on the other like underneath the house in the crawlspace where I have junction boxes for every circuit would allow me to pair everything together. Any ideas?

If you disconnect the wires, you can use a tic tracer type of device which will send a signal through a pair of wires. Very often they are used by telephone cable installers.

Continuity tester that applies load [ 3 Answers ]

As we know, you can do a continuity test on automotive wiring that shows good, but due to a high resistance connection, it won't carry a load. Some months ago on one of the car shows on Speed Channel, they touted a neat tool (about $100) that can put a load on the wiring circuit to locate the...
