Repair/replace pvc closet flange
The toilet in the attached apartment needed a new wax ring because of leakage.After the toilet was removed I found a broken pvc closet flange.It was broken where the flange bolt slides in it's slot.It looks like someone glued a 4" closet flange on a stub of 3" pvc that is 3.5" long.The other end of the stub is glued into a closet bend or elbow.I can't see much more than that.Does anyone have an idea how I can repair or replace this mess?I'm hoping that I don't have to open up the floor or ceiling below.

What you need to do is remove the old flange to the point that is is just a round piece sticking up, you can do this with a jab-saw or some other type saw. Then you can replace it with a flange that slips down into the inside of what is left of the old flange and the PVC pipe, there are several different kinds, even one that has O-rings and slips into the pipe and seals at the same time. Thanks for the quick response.I bought one of the flanges that slip down inside the pipe and I understand your repair explanation.I'm concerned about the reduction of the ID when it's installed even though it's not much(to 2 11/16").This bathroom has a 1.5 gal. water flush toilet and I'm really thinking twice about this flange.However, while on the hunt for the flange you suggested I came across a "Fix-A-Flange" made by FERNCO.It's a 1/4 moon shape metal flange with the slots for the bolt and screws that sides under the pvc flange.I think I'm going this route unless I hear some horro stories.Again,I thank you very much for your info and giving me some direction. The 1/4 moon repair rings you are talking about are fine with one exception and that is that if water get to them they will rust, but I would not let that keep me from using them especially if you can do your own replacements, and they will last for years if they do rust.

Hi letmetellu,Again thanks for the quick reply.I'm going to use this flange repair part.This toilet is in a powder room so it doesn't get used all the time.If it lasts years,I'm OK with that.If or when I run into this problem again,I'll know how to deal with it without feeling I have a nightmare on my hands, thanks to you.
