Do you mean 'German Shepherd in Ohio'?

Have you contacted any insurance companies who write policies in your area?

Mirip, we are currently testing a new user interface. It is causing a bit of delay in posting. If you don't see your post immediately, please wait for a few minutes before posting again.

Most can be covered under your home owners insurance

If its not required, don't get it! Some breeds will cause your home owners insurance to DROP YOU...

Taking liability insurance out on your dog is just opening pandora's box.

If your area doesn't require it, Don't GET IT..

    My opinion.

I'm a liability investigator - this is the type of advice that causes people to lose everything they've worked for. If you have a dog you need to "up" you liability insurance. One bite, one attack, you have a very serious problem.

To suggest not opening a pandora's box in order to avoid having to place your policy at a higher rate or having to shop around is irresponsible. I've seen homeowners refuse to pay, deny coverage, because they WEREN'T advised of a dangerous dog on premises.

I have a very large GSD. I had to shop around. I didn't "forget" that I had her and I didn't omit her when I applied for coverage because I don't want to get sued and then get hung out to dry.

Maybe it's different in Colorado - I work primarily in NY. And, yes, I HAVE seen people lose their homes following a lawsuit and judgment.

If the OP needs/wants insurance he/she should go to an agency that carries multiple lines, tell the truth and see what is available.

It is the policy of AMHD not to encourage or suggest illegal activity and NOT mentioning your dog when you get a HO policy is, in fact, an illegal activity.

JudyKaytee.. I really don't care.. My opinion... disagree if you want. Your very fast at pressing that button.

I have known and heard of people losing their home insurance by doing the "right thing" and taking out liability insurance on a "at risk" dog.

If its not required, don't do it. Plain and simple.

I own 2 pitties.. One has rot in her. I'm not taking out any type of insurance out on them. My parents could lose their home owners insurance.

Keep your dog under control. Keep it trained and behind a fence. If you cannot control your dog, then you shouldn't own that type of breed.

I am well aware that you really don't care - that's been a problem for me concerning your posts.

Your parents could lose their homeowners insurance; you could lose any real estate you own and have a lien against your income for the rest of your life. If you live with your parents, they could lose everything.

Apparently that's not a problem for you.

We've all heard of people losing their homeowners insurance and having to find another company.

What you are recommending is very similar to having an underage driver in the house but not telling your insurance company.

    Also a dangerous practice.

I think my years as a liability investigator trump your years of experience with dog bites and lawsuits - but then apparently you are not aware of anyone whose dog attacked someone.

As far as keep the dog confined - accidents happen. I am not suggesting that any dog, any size, any breed, run loose.

And I had homeowners insurance with knowledge of a Lab, AKC Rottie and AKC GSD.

    And it's you're, not your.

Seriously, get off my A$$ about everything. I get you don't agree with what I have to say.. big deal. I don't really like anything you say either..

And no, I don't care if you disagree with me. You'd disagree with me over the color of the sky.

Stop correcting my spelling :) If I want to misspell and look illiterate, that's my own business... But thank you for your concern... now stay off my @$$

K guys take it up in a PM. I'm closing the thread. To the OP please contact your HO insurance provider, and do not do anything illegal. It's not worth it in the end.

I'm closing the thread, to the OP you can PM me if you want this re opened.

We have to remember when we are giving legal advice, no matter where is it, dogs, cats, or legal advice, it has to be 100% accurate.

There is NO room for opinion. Only 100% facts.

I will add on this, from a legal view point.

First the OP was asking where to get it, not if they should or should not.

Next anyone owning a dog has to be crazy not to have insurance on the dog, esp those breeds known to have an aggressive personality. But also all of them, as a person who goes into a persons home to eval them for disabled, I have been nipped ( nice word for slightly bitten) If I was a sue happy person, I could have used many times.

And the fact is, if you merely read the legal section here, people want to sue every day for anything, even things that should not be sued for.

If your dog even slightly nips even if its paws scratch someone, just think of a child why may get scrathed but to a point of causing a scar on their face. If you don't have 100 or 200 K to write them a check, they will be taking your house, your car, your business or at least 25 percent of your check for most of your life.

Sorry Spot or Rover is not worth that much.

Farmers get insurance on their cows and pigs, if they would get in the road and cause a car wreck or hurt someone,

Not insuring your risks, is a very poor business choice.
