    Use of Union in ceiling gas line
    Hello,

    I decided to make a tray ceiling over my Kitchen Area ( They lowered the entire ceiling above it and it is only 7 ft high.

    I plan to reroute the AC ducting that exsists into the tray areas, but I came upon a problem though. WHen I cut the drywall in the area above the tray area, I found a 1 inch gas line running crosswise just above the tray area AND about 7 electrical wires (Romex) running alongsde the Black Iron Gas line.

    My PLUMBING Question is: I want to reroute the gas line through the tray portion. I can use the exsisting pipe, 90 and T, BUT I will need to reconnect it to the remaining pipe run. Question 1: Can I put a Union in the line where I reconnect? And 2. Is it legal to put a union in an overhead ceiling? If not, is there any way I can reconnect the rerouted pipe back to the remaining run?

    You may use a black iron union to couple your overhead gas line. Good luck, test your joints and make sure the pipes are supported. Tom

    Thanks for your response. I went out and got the Unions and will resuse the pipe clamps that are on the rafters.

    Make surer you Teflon Tape all the threads and pressure test all new joints. Good luck, Tom
