Why would the salesman at the car dealership ask for a copy of my SS card?
I purchased a vehicle a week ago. Today the salesman called my husband saying he needed a copy of my social security card because I'm showing up somewhere else. (?) My gut tells me not to give him a copy, especially with identity fraud going around. Isn't this illegal?

For those interested, I called the finance manager who said they need a copy of my ssc because I'm showing up deceased on one of the credit bureaus. My daddy, who I'm named after, was showing up on my report so they needed to get that cleared. I think the person requesting your ssc needs to have a "need to know" reason as to why they would need a copy; other than that, I don't think someone should ask for a copy.
