    Because England used 50hz... and India was in recent times a British Colony. Or under that sphere of influence. If it was the USA it would have been 60 hz.

    Same reason you drive on the wrong side of the road as well. (basically the LEFT side, not the right) Unique to mostly former British territiories (Japan being the sole exception I can think of.)
