    Why won't my GFI let me reset it? It has been fine with the christmas lights until today.

    Have you tried unplugging the xmas lights and then resetting the GFI? If so then the xmas lights have the fault. Have they gotten wet? All you can do is to allow time for the light strings to dry out. Once he water has dried then the GFI should not trip.
