Hi

I recently had a new toilet and WC fitted in the downstairs cloakroom. The toilet flushes but it is a weak flush. Needs 3 flushes to empty the toilet. The problem was there with the old suite. Is there a pressure problem? What can I do to fix this irritating problem?

If this was a ongoing problem and a new toilet didn't fix it then you have a partial blockage in the toilet drain line and are getting backflow from it that stops the siphon action in the bowl. Pull the toilet and snake the drain line.

Chuck brought up a interesting point. Is this a replacement or a new installation? Tom

Was there a previous toilet there, or is this a new one in a room where there was never one.

The wrong size pipe, not enough drop in the pipe can all cause these also

It is replacement installation. i.e. a new suite. I have just checked the cistern and the water level is about 1.5 centimetres lower than the dotted line. Can I somehow adjust this so more water can be filled up?

To increase the tank level grasp the float ball rod AHEAD of the float ball and just after the ballcock and bend up until the desired level's reached. Also make sure the little tube that connects to the ballcock is secured to the overflow tube. About your flush problem if the drain line's clear then I have found that when the installer installs a new toilet they don't "bevel out" the wax seal. Unless the seal is slanted towards the outside of the flange it will spread inwards. This closes up the hole around the horn to the point that when you flush it will set up a back pressure causing the syphon action to stop. This could be what's causing the flush problem. Good luck. Thanks for your help. I have located the problem and it is with the outside drain (blocked) we share a drain with other households and our man hole is quite shallow so we are getting backflow.
