My 3 year old well had gone cloudy and clayish
I have a 3 year old drilled well. It took me 4 months to clear out the thick gray clayish water. Now three years later I again have this problem. The water when put into a glass is gray swirling milkyness and does not settle out. I've heard that its call colloiday gray clay. I've also been told that the only way to fix this is to constantly let the water run from a hose... I did this for 3 days at about 1 to 1.5 gallon per min and the water would clear enough to see through the glass but still be cloudy.. then it goes back to thick grey swirling... I'm on day 7 and about 12000 gallon flushed out of my well... is there any hope or suggestions??

Why not try a whole house filter? I have 2 on my well, a 5 micron followed by a 15 micron. Crystal clear water. Change 5 micron filter every 4 months and 15 micron 1X year. For $100 you can do both(as a DIY)

I have a whole house filter... 15 microns is too large the only one that even gets close to clear is a 2 micron and it lasts for about a day... the particles are far too fine and far too many.. when the well was first drilled I had the same problem.. I had to what the well driller said " volumn the well" hence the hose running but that was 3 years ago and took 3 months.. I could understand with a new well but its been good for 2.1/2 years and its like it was just drilled... thanks for the advice

Don't know what to tell you. Colloidal substances are extremely small so I could see a 2 micron filling up quickly. My well is 225 ft. deep with 200 ft. of pipe on a submersible. My problem is iron particles and the system I use works very well. Some iron taste if we don't use the well-this is a 2nd home-for a while, but goes away quickly. Is your hot water cloudy too? I wonder how a RO system would work, at least for drinking

Could it be that the water table has fallen and the dirt's closing in around the well point? How deep is your well? Regards Tom

We've had a lot of rain hard down pours since spring my house is on a hill and all around there's swamps any where from 200 feet away and 30 or so feet down to 700 feet away. One thought I have is that all this rain has caused bad veins under the swamp to to over flow into my good vein causing my veins to cloud?? The well is 150 ft and the pump sits at like 130

You might just have hit on the cause of your problem. The solution might be a whole house filter if it doesn't clear up. Good luck, Tom
