    Crate training aversive dogs
I successfully trained our daughter's puppy before she took him to live with her in her apartment. He was trained to stay in his crate overnight. She began letting him sleep on her bed and occasionally put him in the crate for the night. He soon began to protest the crate. One weekend, a dog sitter forced him into his crate and now he stiffens when we coax him in. We were naturally very upset that he had this negative experience and are trying to get him more comfortable with the crate. We have tried putting treats in the crate and reassuring him with soothing words. He will retrieve the treats and quickly comes out. We don't want to continue with this if the process will cause more problems because he is a very well behaved and calm dog otherwise. Should we try feeding him in his crate? Any suggestions? Thanks, gramma to Henry

I always use the old "favorite chew toy in the back" method and close the door behind him. He gets to come out when he gets quiet and gramma does NOT stand by the crate.

He'll remember his training fairly quickly, but you've got to be quick getting the door closed.

I have male and female shih tzu's each 1 year old. They were partially potty trained but not fully. The vet suggested I go back to square one with the crate training. I have done that and they don't cry or whine when they are in the crates so I assume they don't mind being in them. I have a...
