Why is my maltese pooping and peeing on the floor when she's trained to go on her pad
Two weeks ago my dog had diarrhea. I'm not sure why but I think she ate something that didn't agree with her stomach. She had it for about 4 days. She was trained to go on her pads when she was younger. Now she's 7 months Since she had diarrhea she was pooping and peeing on the hardwood floor because she couldn't hold it in. We understood that so we just cleaned it up and didn't get mad at her. When we took her to the vet, he gave her medicine, and the same day she started getting better. She was finally able to make it to her pad and we praised her every time we saw her go. Then a week after she got better and started going on her pad, she started pooping and peeing on the hardwood floor, under the couch, or under tables. Why is this happening and what do I do to resolve this problem?

The thing with puppy pads, are they are very confusing to dogs. You are basically allowing her to do her business in the house on something. Dogs will have a hard time differentiating between a puppy pee pad and a towel left on the floor, clothes, a may or even the carpet.

So since she was allowed to do her business inside while she was sick (understandable), you will have to go back to basics. Re train as if you were starting all over again. I suggest out side. Every time she does her business in the acceptable area, you praise and praise again. Every time she eats or drinks, she gets put out side (or on the mat) and you wait with her until she eliminates, and she gets a mini party! Praise and praise again. You could even offer a small treat as a reward.
