f1 student taxes in cpt time
Hi I am on F-1 status right now. I get job in one company so I am on cpt right now.
My salary is $ 4,061 as per my pay slip and they charge FIT and AR SIT tax.
I don't have any idea about taxes. But as per my knowledge I get something back from this tax amount after some time. What is the procedure for get your tax back and how much I get?
    Thank you in advance.

QUOTE," . . . What is the procedure for get your tax back and how much I get? . . . "--I bet if you think that you are subject to tax refund for your 2009 tax reurn , visit IRS website, IRS.GOV and type in "where is my refund" and follow the processes. If the amount of your FIT and SIT taxes withheld by your employer exceeds your tax liability on your 1040 nr- 1030 nr-ez, the you will get your tax refund from the IRS. Bud~~

Since you just started on CPT, the tax withholdings of which you speak are for federal and state INCOME taxes. These withholdings are sent to the IRS and state to make payments on your federal and state tax liability.

As a F-1 student, you are EXEMPT from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes.

In January, 2011, you will get a Form W-2 from your employer which details what you made and pay in taxes to both the IRS and state. You will then complete and file federal and state income tax returns to reconcile what you owe in taxes. More than likely, you overpaid your taxes and will be entitled to a refund.

For the federal return, you will need to file Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, plus Form 8843 (required of all F and J visa holders).
