    Cracks in italian porcelain
I just bought a set of lovely tea/coffee cups -- possibly stoneware. The are stamped "made in Italy" and "La Primula S.R.L."

They looked perfectly fine till I took them home, washed and poured in some coffee and cream. All of a sudden, dozens of hairlike fractures appeared inside the cups. What causes this? Are these real cracks and can bacteria lodge in them?
    Thanks,
    BJ
