    a/c fan motor-3 wire to a 5 wire
    My fan motor is going out on central air, got a replacement fan they said I needed but old one was a 3 wire not this one has 5 wires. It says it can be hooked up 3 wire putting orange and purple togethor and brown and yellow togethor . Do they need spliced or what?

    What does the label (diagram)on side of motor tell you? Its probable a universal motor and has more than one speed,therefore all the wires are not needed, 2 will go to the new capicitor that they should have sold you for the new motor,and 2 are lead wires
