    Should you have taxes withheld before receiving an inherited annuity/
    My Mother passed away about five years ago.After probate we discovered a portion of an annuity about 13,000 dollars was not distributed because it was in my sisters name who died before her.My remaining sister and myself are about to send in the paperwork and receive a check made out to the estate of.Should we have taxes withheld before receiving it.Mom died in Florida.

    Do NOT have taxes withheld, because the annuity is being paid to the estate, and it is more than likely that no estate taxes are due/

    You MAY have to pay income taxes when the annuity is distributed, but probably not.

    You WILL need to consult with a local tax professional to have them review all aspects of this situation to properly guide you on how to address the distribution of the fund from the estate to you and your sister.
