Anyone have an idea of the costs involved for switching from septic to sewer?

They've put up townhomes in the area, so there should be a sewer line close enough. I probably would wait until the tank or field needs serious work or replacing if it's really expensive, so part of the cost would be necessitated, but it'd be nice to know.

I assume I'd have to take out the tank; would the field stay or would that need to go as well?

The first thing you need to do is to find out if your partition of the cost for putting the sewer main down your alley or street or where ever it runs. After that it would depend on how many feet it is from your house to the main line.
It would probably be a good idea to drain the septic tank and fill it with dirt, the field lines would be no problem except when you might start digging and hit them.

Letmetellu was bang on with his advice. Most local codes mandate that you break out the top of the tank and have it filled with dirt. Due to the differences of pay scales and cost of materials we do not give estimates.

And the city may have a connection fee ? And you would have the cost of all the pipe from where your pipe comes out of the house to where the sewer is on your right of way.

The city may wave some fees if you do it when they are putting the lines in the first time.

Thanks for the answers, gives me more ideas of what exactly to look into.

I know you're not keen on giving estimates, I won't hold you to anything and understand if you still don't want to, but if you could give a wild guess; assuming nominal city fees, and running 200ft, do you think I'd be looking much higher than 20k to do such a thing?
