British little girl encounters a monster
I'd guess that this film is from the early 80's. I only remember it from towards the end. This little girl, whom I believe was English, was living in a huge mansion and kept saying she wanted an adventure. She spoke with a man, (possibly a groundskeeper?) and he told her that there was a secret entrance somewhere leading to an adventure. The girl goes into the entrance and ends up encountering a monster who chases her into the house. As her family watches, she picks up a statue and is encouraged to smash it. As she does, the monster goes away. The very last scene in the film is someone coming to visit the family, and upon seeing the broken statue screams, "I told you the child would break things!"

Several years ago, perhaps 45 or 50, there was a movie about a Scot in a British Army hospital. He was disliked, but in some manner touched everyone. He died and soldiers who disliked him were sad. I barely remember any more. It seems the Scot soldier was played by an up and coming british actor.
