Whirlpool Fridge ET22DKXFW00 drain freezes about once a month. Can this be prevented?
I have a Whirlpool ET22DKXFW00 fridge/freezer. It's quite often dripping water from the freezer into the fridge. I just live with that, but about once a month or so it looses it's ability to cool and freeze. I take the bottom off the freezer and defrost the drain tube and then put it back together. That fixes the problem, but only for about a month and then the whole thing starts over. Is there anyway to prevent the drain tube from freezing? Is there a part that I can order and replace?

    Thanks!

Drain line is clogged. Run small flexible wire down to clear. Easiest way to clear is with compressed air. ( After ice in tube has melted.)

Harold is correct. I use the thicker copper wire found in most house electrical sytems. Buy a foot from Home Depot, strip off a bare wire about 5 inches long, make a half-loop on one end and hang it from the defrost heater element then into the drain line. Make sure it is long enough or problem will happen again. No, I know of no fix besides this.
A guy did invent an electric drain heater but I wouldn't recommend it 'cause it too close to the heater element.

Thank you both! I'm excited to see if the wire works. I'm looking forward to not having to empty my fridge once a month!

Stop by Home Depot or Lowe's.
In the hardware section where they sell rope, cable and chain, purchase a length of small (1/8" or smaller) stranded cable covered with vinyl. This will be stiff enough to push through the tubing and flexible to follow the tubing. Cable should be long enough to reach from the drain hole to the bottom of the fridge plus 2 feet. After ice in drain tube has melted (you can use hair dryer to help) run cable down the tube to clear blockage.

I have a whirlpool ET22DKXFW00 refrigerator. It's been having water melting in it for the past 6 months or so (pooling down) and just recently the refrigerator section is not keeping foods cold enough. The freezer is working fine. Do you think the tube is clogged or froze over or is the whole thing going out.

If water is pooling in it your drain is stopped up. If the freezer is cold and fridge isn't then the air is not cerculating. This can be caused by ice build up in your coils, the fan not working, the air vent to fridge could be clogged,or it cantrols can be set wrong. Never turn temp. control all the way up.
