Is a police officer supposed to take a witness statement in an assault charge?
Ok.. here's the situation.. My fiancé asked the animal control officer to leave our porch more than once.. and he asked nicely.. When he refused to leave my fiancé proceeded to open up the door partway to point to the street and tell the man to leave.. well the man literally turned his head towards his right shoulder and fell, on his own free will, off the steps of my car.. then he staggered backwards into the drivers side back door of my car and left a dent! Then he started cursing in front of kids and adults alike! Then the Animal control officer called the cops and said that my fiancé pushed him.. I was standing right behind my fiancé when all happened and we also had someone standing about 3 feet away from the porch at the time.. the cops took right around a 1/2 hr to get there and when they did they put my fiancé in the back of the car, took my registration # for my car and left.. What I don't understand is why they didn' take any witness statements.. espically from the person that was standing 3 feet away! Don't they have to take a statement? Also, what would I do about the man that filed the false report?

Why was the animal control officer at your door in the first place? And why did your boyfriend tell them to leave?

Auto accident with no witness or police report [ 2 Answers ]

I was parking my car at a busy gas station and hit a curb. The guy behind me said that I hit his car, but I said I didn't. None of the other customers witnessed anything, (it was full that day) and the police were not called. Am I liable for his "damages"?
