    Nanny-city in ruin
Jeff Adachi is the liberal public defender of arguably the most liberal city in the US . San Francisco. And yet he is being treated as an apostate because he dare suggest that the nanny-city is running out of money.
He points out that the city ,running a budget of $6 billion cannot afford to fund summer school ,and in his view the major problem is that the city needs to payout $700 million in municiple union retirement pensions.

His solution ("Smart Reform" ),a modest 10% employee contribution to the retirment plan has met with major resistance by the unions ,and Mayor Newsom (who plans on abandoning ship if Jerry Brown is elected Guv.He would be Lt. Guv. And bring his ruinious plans to state level .That requires union backing so he will shirk his responsibilities to manage the city effectively )... and evidently most other elected officials in the city.

Adachi had collected 75,000+ signatures to get his plan on the ballot in November .So evidently some people in the city get it.

Best guess is that when the city goes insolvent they will attempt to get the Federal Government to bail them out... and as you know... San Fran is too big to fail.
