I rescued an emaciated and abused pit bull in April. He was at the vets for a month, he is now in his forever home and is a beautiful boy but all of his nipples are large. Why is this? He is healthy and happy now.

It could just be because he is so emaciated, and under weight that his nipples look longer. Sometimes when a dog is malnourished their skin around their anus, nipple area, eye area can sag. It should spring back once he gains his weight back. Was he just neutered?

Have you taken him to the vet since you have gotten him?

Not to scare you, but it could be something that needs to be looked at medically. Sometimes male dogs will get enlarged nipples due to age, but they can also develop cancer there.

Are they big and hard? Almost swollen looking on the chest?

It could be something that you don't need to worry about, and then again it could be something you really do need to worry about.

Sometimes with emaciated dogs, they will develop cyst-like lumps on certain parts of the body. That would be due to laying on hard surface or even just laying on a surface with no fatty tissue to protect those tender places.

You should still take him to a vet for them to examine those. They should also do an x-ray of the chest to be safe.
