You ARE progressing. You are dilated to 3 cm. already. Trust me, you DO NOT want to be induced. Normal, uninduced labor will be much better for your body and for the baby. Be patient. Get whatever sleep you can now, because you won't get much once the baby arrives.

I sit here at work in the labor and delivery department right now... so let me start with a few questions for you.

    1) Is this your first baby?
    2) What are the worries that are making you go to the hospital?

It can be frustrating and uncomfortable at the end to be sure, but unless there is a true medical reason to induce... far better for both of you to go on your own.
Your baby is doing fine... a very good reason why you shouldn't induce if it isn't necessary.

I don't understand why the OP was sent home either. If I have a gal who comes into me at 38 weeks, contracting, I let her labor naturally. Rarely do I send someone home who is 3cm AND contracting.

I took it as she was uncomfortable from being pregnant, but not actually regularly contracting?
