    Fear of heights
Hi I have a 7 month old black lab. He has a Very outgoing and playful attitude, and LOVES to meet new people. The only problem is that he is afraid of heights. I see other dogs that are 1 to 2 mo younger than he is jump from the bed of trucks and off porches. I have to carry him from the truck bed and put him on the ground, he is 75lbs and it is getting hard for me to do. Any ideas on how I can help him to realize that it won't hurt him? I have tried treats to try and convince him with no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

A puppy that young shouldn't be jumping from a truck anyway, you can do long-term damage to their joints. He probably just knows it's too high for him.

When he is fully grown you can try teaching him to jump in and out of the truck.
In the mean time is there any way you can carry a box of some sort in the back to act as a step for him to use?

Agree. He's much too young for that type of jump no matter what he weighs. And if he was coaxed to jump and hurt himself, now he won't even attempt it.

I could very easily go into a rant about driving dogs around in the back of pick up trucks, unsecured. Scares me to death and I see it all the time. Several dogs in my area die every summer either when the truck stops and they fall out, when they jump out, when they are secured and fall over the side and hang themselves.

Every person (hopefully) does what is best for his/her dog but I don't like to see this.

Ceiling heights [ 1 Answers ]
