Human Resources are important because of the growing number of laws in the business world in regard to employment for one. It is important to have a department trained specifically to comply with all the laws in regard to applicants, drug-testing, disciplinary action, FMLA and termination. If you are not up on your game about those laws, you could make a serious mistake and cost your company a ton of money in lawsuits or EEOC claims.

Also, HR is important for things like training and retention. Putting together benefit programs are also an important aspect. You need to keep your employees happy and having a well-organized HR department to do that is important.
