I was told by two different contractors that if you switch from a R22 system to the R410 A
You have to replace the lines and the coil above the furnace. Another contractor says that's not true, you can use the same lines and coil. Who is correct?
The system we're talking about here is for a manufactured home.

You could get by with not replacing the lineset, but the special chemical that needs to be used to flush out the lines is very expensive + special training to be able to do it
As for the evaporater coil, it must be changed out,, the coils for a 410A system are in several ways different than a R22 coil

If the evaporator coil is manufactured for 410A refrigerant, it technically will work. The line set may or may not work. It mainly depends if they are the correct diameters or not. The problem is getting them clean and flushed of the system oil. The oil for R22 and the oil for 410A are completely different and NOT compatible. To go through the whole cleaning process correctly will cost more than the line set unless it is IMPOSSIBLE to replace. Also, unless you have a really new, high quality evaporator, why reuse it? After you work all day do you put the same clothes back on after taking a shower? Your evaporator is worn, and if it is in manufactured housing, I doubt it is a really high end unit. I wouldn't risk it. What's the warranty on a used evaporator?

I have the split system an old Nordyne, 17 years old. One contractor gave me a bid for a new Rheem and said the old R22 coils would work fine. The other contractors said that I'd need new coils and piping for the 410A to work. Just wanted to make sure who was right. I think Rheem should pull the first contractors license if he's installing new
Units in the old R22 systems. He had me just about talked into it.
