Ahhh a power surge caused by lightning...

Did you smell it? We had this happen to our set top box - lots of melty and just a tad of explodey inside.

You might be able to get someone to fix it, it might just need a single readily available component to be replaced. Then again it could be something crucial that costs more to get hold of than a new TV.. depends on your case.

Best case it might just be a fuse!

    Hope it isn't anything serious

Lightning just going by the power line can destroy your TV. The energy field from the lightning will cause a voltage spike on the power lines that will burn out the high and low voltage power supplies. That is why it is always a good idea to buy a quality voltage spike protector for you TV and computers and other electronics. Cost of fixing most tvs is more than buying a new one. So you should look at the cost of a new TV if you are talking 1000 dollars or more then I would call my home owners insurance and see if I am covered for lightning. If you are talking 300 dollars then I would buy a new one for the energy used to run the newer tvs will save on the electric bill. One thing you should do is learn from this and go and buy a good surge protection power strip for home entertainment systems that will not only protect your electric but also cable and antennas and phone line too if one is hooked up to your cable box. Myself I use the Monster Cable PowerProtect™ Surge Protector (MPHTS1000MKII) it costs about $160.00 you can find it for less if you look. It handles all my audio video equipment for I do not want anything to happen to my 61 inch HD TV. Do your research and see what's best for you just Google surge protectors and many will appear

Agreed with cyberslider! I have a surge protector running all my PC stuff and wouldn't ever wire one up without it.
