A/C box fan outside won't turn on anymore, hums... can't figure out
    Hi All,

One of the 1.2 million unemployed whose unemployment was also ended by the Senate yesterday. :(
Well, apparently that wasn't enough for the week. This evening, the A/C decided to break, and it hovers 95+ here afternoons and very very humid.

The central fan works just fine, but the fan box outside won't kick on anymore. It appears to be humming (reminds me of a vaccuum with something stuck in the rollers) but the fan blade turns freely and I can't see anything stuck.

Is this a common problem/common occurrence that anyone has heard of before? Obviously it must be getting power or it wouldn't be humming. Open to any suggestions and will try anything, thanks much.

Check the breaker for power,, could be the low voltage control (contactor) that you hear humming, you would hear this without the 230 volt breaker being on

    Hi thanks for the help.
I reset all the breakers in the basement, checked all wire connections and turned the air on again today.
After a bit the condenser unit reluctantly started. Now it is running, but the fan box appears to be running at a slower speed or not as loud as it normally does.
Also, the air is blowing inside the house, but it does not appear to be cold.
Is there a breaker somewhere else on the unit itself you are talking about?
Is there a part that would cause this odd behaviour?

I have had the motor checked and it was good, I had the capacitor check and he said the fan side was reading 4 just like a new one, but the condenser side was supposed to read 35, but was only reading 30, I did not know if this was a big enough drop to keep the fan from running.
