    Income tax liability
My exemployer paid my wages in cash. He did not give any breakdown just said it was my takehome pay. I left before the end of the year. In January he sent me a 1099 and the IRS sent me a tax bill for almost $15k. I went through the procedures with the ss8 form and they determined that I was an employee not an independent contractor, but they are still charging me for the taxes. Is there any recourse with this situation since I don't have any receipts showing that he withheld my taxes? I did fill out the form for deductions at the beginning of employment.

Did your employer issue you a W2 form to document wages paid and taxes withheld (if any)? Or did he issue you a 1099? If a 1099, then your employer is saying that NO taxes were withheld.

He hired me as an employee, treated me as an employee and sent me a 1099. I know he is saying no taxes were withheld but I know he did deduct it from my pay. Do you think I could get the IRS to obtain documents from him to prove that he did not with
