    Central a/c unit -not cooling service man filled it with feon but still not cooling
    I have a kenmore 3 ton 14 series unit. At night it cools good but day time it goes to 80 degrees. The compressor had a leak so the service man filled it up. Wasn't the service man suppose to change the dryer on it? The hose outside is not even cold and in the house it blows a little cool air but it seems like it is not pulling out the humidity in the house. The air out of the vent is a little cool but doesn't blow a lot. My a/c is only 4 years old. Help.

    Sounds like the freon leaked out again.

    When your central a/c has a leak
    In the compressor and it runs out completely with freon. Does the ac tech need to replace the dryer (this is the part that takes the humidity out of the house) and then fix the leak and put freon back into the compressor? Cause the tech put freon in my compressor but it is still not cooling.

    Thank you but does the tech need to install a new dryer and then put freon into the system??

    Usually yes when the lines are exposed to air for some time. If there was ANY pressure at all in the system, then no. Repairs should have been made with a Nitrogen purge.

    The dryer removes water (non-condensibles) from the freon, not the house.

    Generally you can tell if the dryer needs to be replaced by the leak up rate and the use of a heat gun after the lines have been placed under vacuum.

    Thank you A tech came to my house and said I had a leak and that he had to order a dryer. Two weeks later a new tech came and repaired the leak, put feon but did not put on a new dryer. Now 2 weeks later I called for a tech to come that my ac is not cool my house in the daytime only at night. I think he did not fix the leak or did not put in enough freon. The tech did tell me that it is hot outside and if I set my ac to 75 it will not get to that temp inside my house. I feel he is not tell me the truth. My ac is 4 years old 3 ton 14 series Kenmore. I have 1500 sq feet. It should cool my house, it did before. How can I make sure he is doing the right work??

    <Merged two threads>

    I do agree, that the most logical cause is the leak wasn't repaired.

    Sometimes things go well and other times they don't.
