    My cat had kittens
My cat just had 5 kittens 2days ago. This is her first litter and I'M very new at this situation. The kittens seem to be OK. I have them in a spare bedroom down stairs in my basement. I'm worried that mom isn't doing everything she's supposed to be doing. Every time I enter the room mom runs right up to me wanting my attention. I haven't notices mom moving the kittens around. Every time I go to check on them mom doesn't seem to be nursing like she should. I have to lay mom down and direct the kittens to her so they can nurse. She does good with that. IS any of this normal?

Its her first litter, she's not sure what to do either. Both of you need to work with one another on this.

Maybe locking her in the basement makes her feel completely ignored. She may be worried due to you not being around like you use to. Many people can welp puppies and kitties successfully in the main part of the house, such as the living room or maybe even a spare bedroom.

Allow her to get away from her babies. Most mamas enjoy time to themselves too. Plus, keeping her in the main part of the house will help you watch her interact with her babies.

Also.. just because it's a cat doesn't mean she's going to be a good mom. Many animals are bad mothers and will do bare minimum care for their babies.

She could be nervous also which is why she is hardly with them. Her whole situation changed. She's now in the basement away from her people. Disrupting her every day routine of being with her people will definitely cause her to be nervous and maybe not take care of the kittens.

Also, to help with milk production, feed her kitten food.. both canned and dry. It helps her produce milk and keep her weight on. It also helps aid in the weaning process from mom to dry food.

    Good Luck

I'm with lucky, you don't have to keep her in a separate part of the house. When my cat had kittens, they lived in a corner of the living room. Not only did it let me keep a better eye on them, but it got the babies used to me being around.

Being near you and able to seek attention when she needs and wants it will likely help her feel better about being a new mother. It'll also give you the chance to watch her and the babies and help you catch possible problems earlier.

Thanks you. If I bring the kittens and mom to the main part of the house, should I keep them in a box or just put the kittens on a towel on the floor like they are now?

OK, well I tried to bring mom and kittens to main room. I put them on a blanket in a corner. Mom got really nervouse and tried hiding the kitts under my couch, so I put mom and kits back downstairs. Should I try to bring them back again tomorrow?

Try putting them in a box or pet bed under and endtable or something.
