    Driving jobs for felons
I have been in and out of the trucking business for over 20 years. Due to a prior drug addiction I have a very poor work history, and three felony convictions for theft, and two misdemeanor drug convictions. How and where can I find a company who will give me a chance at redemption?

    Hi, garyn101!

The competition is tough for people getting a job anywhere! With the competition, hiring policies and insurance issues, the likelihood of someone with a felony on their record landing a job with a trucking firm isn't very good.

You can try for a trucking job, but your efforts might be better spent at looking for other types of employment.

What kind of education and other job experience and training do you already have, please?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, your chances are slim simply because there are plenty of others who don't have the conviction history. Many companies want drivers who can pass background checks for insurance reasons, to obtain a TWIC card so that they can enter ports and military bases, and who can also have a hazmat endorsement. Drug convictions alone will put you out of the running.

An example of how challenging it could be: if a driver had a suspended license for something such as points for speeding, even in their personal car, they could find it difficult to get hired.

You might check into local trucking companies in the area that you live who do short haul loads, but even they may not simply due to insurance requirements.
