I'm renting a 54 yr old building for my business. I covered the existing tile floor with self adhesive vinyl floor tiles. Brown goo is oozing through the seams. It's like a dark brown liquid that turns to tar and sticks to the floor. What is it?

Fifty years ago they used a black adhesive to stick tiles down. This is probably what you are seeing if you cleaned the floor first with a heavy duty cleaner before applying the stick on tiles. You inadvertently melted the black glue.

Tick has nailed it. Emulsion type adhesive.

Who ever is cleaning your floors, is using too much water and it is getting under tile.

Floors should be damp mopped, not wet mopped.

We recently (last November) put down self-stick floor tile. We rented a 75-lb roller and went over the tiles after we put it down, however the glue we applied to the existing floor (as instructed by the rug & tile business), is still seeping up between the tiles. Does this goo ever dry completely. I don't wet mop, really. I use the swiffer spray & mop. Do you think that could be too much "wet" for the floor?

If you used self-stick tile, no extra glue/adhesive was needed.

There are many types of adhesive on the market. Please let us know what type you used. Some have to have tile installed when ''wet''. Some after adhesive has dried but is still tacky.
