Ok I have a huge problem! My cousin (she has a kid from another guy and she is my niece) who I am very close too got together with this guy after about 5 months of knowing him. Well I guess at first everything was going OK or at least that's what she was saying now after everything that has happened I donot know if this is true. Well my niece told me not once but many times that this guy hits her. Well up until this point I would talk to my cousin and she would 'supposedly' talk to her boyfriend. But like I said my niece kept on telling me and not only me but my boyfriend too. Well at the beginning of the week she told us that he had hit her again and not only her but my cousin too. She alos described how it had happened with details. So this was it, my boyfried called the cops and they questioned my cousin and niece. Of course my cousin denyed the whole thing and said that my niece was exaggerating on her story. My niece on the other hand was brave and told everything to the cops. So they arrested him and took him to jail. Well now my cousin is mad at me telling me that my boyfriend should not have called. That we had no right to get involved in her life. She also said that she was not going to let me see my niece again. I told her that I did understand that but that was showing my niece that saying the truth was bad. But she does not understand me I do not know what to do what can I do?

It is complicated, but maybe not so much...

If he does hit her, he needs to be stopped. Period.

If the child makes up stories, it isn't so clear.

All that said... the fact she said "stay out of my life" and not "it is a lie" is pretty telling, id think...

And if it all plays out as she said... if she keeps the niece from you... you need to take some solice in knowing you bettered her life... yes, you want to be close... but safe is best, no matter what else happens, right?

Give it time... if the feud is really between you and your cousin... well, just keep showing love to your niece whenver you can.

In time, even if distanced, I'm guessing shell come to you...

She might not understand how you saved her now... but in time, I think she will...

I think you did the right thing in calling the police, however maybe you should have mentioned to your cousin and her b/f beforehand that your niece was saying she was being hit.

It's a very difficult thing to do to report someone who is hurting a child, but someone has to step up to the plate, because that child could end up a dead child.

So you or your b/f did right.
