    How can I try to remember my childhood?
    Okay, so I absolutely can't remember my childhood. I only remember a few things like where my 5th & 6th bday party was (thats all of that), a fight my parents had when I was really young (I think 4), and only a few more. See, it's not that I had a bad childhood, it's just I don't know why I can't remember anything, sometimes I can't even remember what I did the week before. I know people say I was "blocking" my mind from remembering but I don't know why/how I would/could. Can anyone help me?

    Some people remember better than others, try looking at photos of those times, also hypnosis has been know to help many

    I would have to agree with the people that are saying you are blocking something out. If your mind has blocked something out than you may not know it. You wouldn't know why you have blocked it out, but if you have then something happened to you that you don't want to remember. So you wouldn't remember it with out help.

    Something may not have happened to you and you may bad memory. Either way like Fr_Chuck said, hypnosis would help. There is also exercises you can do to improve your memory. You can do a search on Google for memory exercises.

    It may simply be a matter of nothing of significant import happening for it to stick in your memory. You remember the things that were important or drastic or traumatic or exciting enough to be committed to memory. Everything else gets pushed to the side, and either never makes it's way into our longterm memory, or gets buried by more recent memories.

    Short term memory is about 6-10 seconds long. Long term memory has two stages. The first stage lasts anywhere from a few minutes to a day. The second stage are the things that remain after we sleep. Sleep is when your brain goes through all the things that happened that day and basically chooses which ones will become a part of our memories. Not everything makes the cut.

    If it really bothers you, then look into hypnotherapy. You can also try exercises to trigger your memory. Whenever something reminds you of something from the past, follow the memory as far as you can. Keep a journal of the things you remember. Talk to friends and family about your childhood. You'd be surprised what a simple conversation can trigger.
