Ceiling fans are not waterproof, not supposed to be. They have exposed enamel coated copper wiring. The water can creep into places in the fan motor and cause problems. The best thing to do is take it down, take it apart and clean and dry all parts which is easier and cheaper than a new one. You don't need a ceiling fan with water in it, disaster will happen.

The easiest things to do is wipe the fan and blades dry with a terry towel and not use it for several days. Direct a box fan at the ceiling fan for 48 hours. Unless the fan has a remote the chance are good it will be fine in 48 hours. I have had circular saws fall into buckets of water, electruic drill left out in the weekend rain, all good after a 48 hour rest in a dry place.

I agree. Give the fan time to dry, wipe any exisitng water. A blower, heater, or dehumidifier can help. After a day or so, it will either work or not work.
