Would it show on a background check...
... whether or not someone was adopted, has a child and was in the military? I am double checking that my BF's past is what's he says it is? Also, would the person be notified that a background check is done on him?

No, you are not notified when someone runs a background check on you - unless, of course, it's for employment (which is not the case here).

I have never seen an adoption when I've done a background check UNLESS it was an older child or from outside the US and, yes, military records appear.

Who is doing the background check? Some are better than others.

No adoption does not show up, most normal "background" checks you run on internet or at the police station merely shows crime committed. There are some you can get that may show bankruptcy, military service or more.

Again, the check you are asking for, will most likely not be the cheap ones you see advertised on the internet

Yes, as FrChuck said - when it comes to background checks, you get what you pay for.

I've had Attorneys had me background checks that clients have individually run through companies that advertise. The background check consisted of print outs from public websites.

Also in some states they will be notified of a background check. At least that is the case if a private entity tries to pull your DMV records in California.. The state has to notify you that someone is looking at your records. Law Enforcement is exempt.

Educational records are the same--if it is not "directory information", which is basically whether a student ever attended, then the school must have either a signed release or a subpoena to give that information out.

And yeah--the only way an adoption is going to show up on ANY background check is if he was either adopted as an older child. I'm not sure about an international adoption showing up if he was an infant at the time of the adoption, though.

Personally, I suggest you either believe your boyfriend and get counseling for your trust issues, or break up with your boyfriend because you don't trust him.

I was going to add this and I've posted it before - when I'm asked to do a surveillance or a background check I always ask what the person requesting the check intends to do with the info.

If you've come to the point where you have to have someone run a background check (or do a surveillance) the relationship is pretty much doomed.

And that's fighting against my own income!
