    Arcing in my breaker box
    I am having trouble with arcing in my breaker box. What are probable causes of this and potential solutions? Do Arc Fault Circuit Interruptors just cut the circuit off when it arcs or do they do anything to prevent arcing.

    Arcing in a breaker box is caused by a loose connection that is getting hot, melting material, and getting looser and hotter.

    Arc Fault breakers only protect the branch circuit connected to them.

    Get your panel checked ASAP. You may only need one breaker, or several, or may even need a new panel, depending on the severity of the arcing that is occurring, the length of time this has been allowed to continue, and the amount of damage done.

    This is VERY SERIOUS, get this panel checked ASAP. The condition is not getting better left alone.

    As a DIY, I push the envelop a lot. This is one I would call a professional for. I laugh every time my spell check suggests DIE for DIY.

    I was going to do this as an I approve comment but was got by the spread rep.
