Beagle Puppy eating poop
Well, the crate issue is better now. Keeping fingers crossed! Every morning I am waking her up and find the crate dry. I wish I could give her all the crate again, but I am afraid it is too soon, so I will stick to the restriction of the crate for now. I can see she is annoyed that it is small, but during the day when the door is open she goes in alone and does not mind it. She sleeps most of the morning in it. But I noticed that at night she growls and protest when I close the door. Before she never use to mind it... Now that it is not a villa and she ended up in a studio flat, she is not very happy about it! I have to close the door, I do not trust her a whole night with the door open. So that is being handled... but one major problem remains!! My puppy is and has been eating his poop.
Any one with any ideas? I gave her the pineapple, I sprayed tabasco sauce and paprica on it too, she still goes back and eats it... So I just remove it from my garden as soon as she does it... the problem is that if I do not notice she did, she will eat it, I have to be there all the time and I cannot really... I am now using forbid... it has been 3 days since I started it... she is still eating it.
When I go for walks outside it is easy to control, we just leave it there... but when she goes privately and quietly in the garden, she eats it all... I notice because I am always on guard and I often smell her breath or mouth... you can easily tell she ate it!

Try sprinkleing meat tenderizer on her food. I have had more success with that than the pineapple.
Another thing is when they are eating poo, it can mean they are missing something from their diets. Sometimes dog poop seems like dog food. This can happen when dog food is low quality and includes materials that are easily passed and not absorbed by your dog. When the dog poops, it seems to be very much like the food he just consumed.
Another reason can because of worms. Has she been treated for worms and fleas?
Some dogs will simply eat poop to pass the time. Dogs will eat poop because they are bored or lonely.
Your dog might eat poop because he's anxious, nervous or otherwise upset. Stress will drive animals to do odd things.
Some dogs will eat poop to hide the evidence. If you punish your dog for pooping, he might eat it to stop you from getting angry.
Some young dogs and puppies will eat poop as a novelty. That is, they'll eat poop as an experiment. They don't know better.
If your dog watches you pick up poop, he might learn to do the same. This is called allelomimetic behavior. Your dog observes you and learns from you, by putting the poop in his mouth you put poop in a bag.
Many dogs simply like the taste of poop. It reminds them of what they were given as pups. It's warm and moist.
In some cases, dogs will eat poop if they are given too much food. This is especially true if your dog's diet is high in fat.

Hi thanks for your reply. She has been wormed 4 times. What about the fleas? I put frontline drops on her. She eats Royal Canin kibble mixed with tin food with wram water. I do this because she does not eat dry kibble alone. The vet told me to mix a bit and change the brand. She was on Eucanuba before and then I changed to Royal Canin like the vet suggested. She eats twice a day but still eats poop in the morning. When we go out for walks it is not a problem, we just walk away, but when she is in the garden alone, she just eats it in peace and comes in the house licking her mouth smellling of poop. If I do not catch her in the act... it is then too late... I still remove it but it would have been too late.
I am using 'Forbid' now and hope it will yield some results although some people told me that it is for nothing and she will not grow out of it now... I hope not.. I am confused. Thanks again for your help

Some dogs will always do it.. other do grow out of it.
My puppy was 3 months old when we got him and he used to poop in the hallway where we couldn't see him, then he would pick the poop up and bring it up to me and drop it in my lap! Other times he would play with it and eat it.
He is now 7 months old and does his poops (still inside grrr) but he leaves them alone.
A few years ago I had a Shih Tzu who was 2 years old and still liked to chow down on her poop... we tried everything with no luck.
Only time will tell unfortunately.

Hi thanks for your reply. I hope she will grow out of it! She does not eat it all, (not all of the times) but she licks it - I can smell her breath! She just did it now! I put tabasco on it an left it in the garden (the poop) (it is too late now really but... ) I will remove it in a few minutes time. Hopefuly she would have gone and smelt it or tried to lick it. I am very afraid she will not grow out of it!! She was 4 months yesterday.

Hi all, I took the beagle to the vet today and she said that she has no medical problem relating to her poop eating. She also started obedience school and the instructor told me that it might be just a dominance issue and that I am still not the pack leader! Any ideas??
