    One ton of refrigeration = 12,000 BTU's

    One watt = 3.414 BTU

    1.5 Ton = 18,000 BTU / 3.414 BTU = 5272 watts

    Note, this only is for the compressor, does not include the load of condensing fans, controls etc.
