Our company has offices in two cities with a VPN conecting the two. We recently setup a Buffalo Terastation NAS in one city and cannot access it from the other. All other devices in the city with the NAS are able to be pinged and connected to except the NAS. The city with the NAs is able to connect to all devices in the other city. Any suggestions?

From the information you have given I would first lean towards two different options.

Firstly the drive may not have the right network settings been applied to it. Double check all the settings.

Secondly your network security is blocking access to the drive somehow.

I would attempt to monitor the network traffic on the first point of contact in the city where the NAS is and then attempt to access it from the other city and see what happens to the packets as they hit the point of access. Do you get block, dropped or does it attempt to forward them. This will give us some more info.

jkraw90, thanks for the suggestions! I had checked the network setting repeatedly, thinking I might have missed something as I did not set up the firewall or the NAS. I finally read somewhere that someone had a similar problem that was corrected by disabling the second ethernet port! For some reason it was set to enabled even though nothing was connected and none of the parameters were configured for the port! As soon as I disabled, we were able to connect to the NAS across the VPN!

Can't think why that would cause a issue network wise, so it sounded more like a issue specific to that product. First thing that would come to mind is the NAS attempting to use the second port as it's default and the first as a slave when the second port is active. So it works fine is the network is connected via the second but not if nothing is.
